Our History
At a Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir concert in Radio City Music Hall, Pastor Jim Cymbala announced the inaugural service of a new sister church, Manhattan Grace Tabernacle (MGT). That was September 10th, 1989. Since that day, MGT has rented space in different locations in Manhattan. MGT is currently meeting at La Hermosa Christian Church in Harlem where people are experiencing transformation through the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and where it continues to thrive. It has been an exciting journey for Manhattan Grace Tabernacle! The church has been instrumental in the salvation of souls at each of its locations. MGT's continued desire and vision is to one day acquire a building of its own. Until then, Manhattan Grace Tabernacle will continue to go forward with the end goal of reaching the lost and making disciples until His return.
Our Faith
We believe in the verbal inspiration and inerrancy of the Scriptures and the authority of both the Old and New Testaments.
We believe that God eternally exists in three Persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit-and that these three are one God, having the same nature, attributes, and perfections, and worthy of the same worship, reverence and obedience. We believe man was created in the image of God, but sinned and fell through disobedience, and that the entire human race shares in man’s lost and depraved nature. We believe Jesus, the eternal Son of God, took upon Himself the form of a man by means of the virgin birth, lived a sinless life, yet retained His absolute deity, being at the same time very God and very man. We believe that atonement for sin was made by the sacrificial and substitutionary death of Jesus Christ. We believe in the literal resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into heaven, and His priestly intercession. |
We believe salvation is the gift of God by grace alone and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that this faith is manifested in works pleasing to God.
We believe the Holy Spirit is the Promise of the Father, the Comforter who indwells and places every believer in the Body of Christ, bestows spiritual gifts upon the Church and convicts the world of sin and the judgment to come. While all believers are in-dwelt by the Spirit of God (Romans 8), we believe the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a definite endowment of power for service and is separate from conversion. We believe that the ordinances of the church, by the command of Christ, are Water Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper, both of which are administered to those who are born again. We believe in the eternal salvation of the believers and in the eternal damnation and punishment of the nonbelievers. We believe that the consummation of all things includes the visible, personal and glorious return of Jesus Christ the “Blessed Hope” of the Church. |
Our Policies
Manhattan Grace Tabernacle is continually striving for spiritual excellence in everything that we do. There are many aspects to that, of course, both corporately as a church, and individually, including the pastors, staff, members and even visitors. Included in that is our watchfulness over the most vulnerable among us, the children. We are in the process of updating the screening of all the people that interface in some way with the youth and children’s ministries, including Christian Education, A.N.Y.C. and VBS.
Below are the policies that are being instituted on an ongoing basis so that everyone can be aware, watchful and accountable.
